TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS JOHN STEINBECK?

The quote in the clue comes from Chapter 1 of Steinbeck’s 1952 novel “East of Eden” which begins with the narrator’s description of the Salinas Valley where he grew up. He talks about “the rich years when the rain was plentiful,” then brings up the dry spells so severe that some people sold out for nothing and left the area. But of those who stayed, he says: “it never failed that during the dry years the people forgot about the rich years, and during the wet years they lost all memory of the dry years.”

Steve started out right with “Ste” but changed to Camus. He bet and lost it all.

Andrew was right, too. He bet $10,601 and won the game with $24,001. Andrew Thomson is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Happy Halloween to you.VJ. congrats to Andrew on his victory. If he wins his second game, he will relax for the next few weeks. Also how did Steve confuse captain nemo with bugs bunny?

    • VJ says:

I wouldn’t say he got the two characters confused, Lou. That cartoon with Bugs at the South Pole probably popped in his head and he just said it when he couldn’t think of the right response. We were just watching the Bugs Bunny cartoon where the drunk stork delivers Bugs to the gorillas the other day. Funny stuff!

I’d like to know why Steve changed to Camus. He must have thought Steinbeck was too obvious to be right!

Happy Halloween! There is only one more game left until the Tournament of Champions. Whoever wins tomorrow’s game gets to relax for two weeks.

    • VJ says:

Yes, Happy Halloween! I meant to mention that in the recap but it was a real 3-ring circus around here until the kids went off to a Halloween party.

We often talk about easy clues. Well, how about this one in today’s “H”istory category: ($400) Attila was the king of these people from 434 to 453. LOL!!
