Warriors Sweep Trail Blazers to Advance to NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors were without Kevin Durant throughout the NBA Western Conference Finals, but it seemingly didn’t matter as they swept the Portland Trail Blazers in four games to win the West and advance to the NBA Finals for the fifth year in a row. Golden State beat Portland in overtime 119-117 to complete the sweep on May 20th. The two time defending NBA champions advanced to the Finals for the fifth straight year, the first team to do that since the 1957-66 Boston Celtics, who set the record with 10 straight.

Steph Curry led the way with a triple double, with 37 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. Draymond Green also had a triple double with 18, 14, and 11. This was the first time ever that two teammates had triple doubles in a playoff game, a somewhat surprising statistic. Golden State was also down by double digits in the last three games, showing that no lead is safe against the defending champs.

The Warriors await the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between Milwaukee and Toronto. The Finals will begin May 30th, so they will have plenty of time to rest up. By that time, Durant should be back from his leg injury, making Golden State even more formidable.
