Undefeated Central Florida Will Go for 23rd Straight Win
The team with the longest winning streak in Division I NCAA football is still trying to make it into the Top 10 in the polls, not to mention a shot at the College Football Playoff. Central Florida is 9-0 and 6-0 in the American Athletic Conference, and has won 22 straight games, including 13-0 last season ending with a victory over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Still, the AP Poll has the Knights at #11, and they are 12th in the College Football Playoff poll. At this stage of the season, all they can do is win their last two regular season games and the conference championship game and hope that a bunch of teams in front of them lose. About eight of them.
UCF’s biggest problem is the American Athletic Conference, which makes it much more difficult to make the CFP. Basically, the strength of schedule isn’t there compared to a Power Five conference team, and with just four slots in the CFP, at least one of those gets left out. UCF also had a non conference game against North Carolina cancelled due to a hurricane.
But the talk of another undefeated season is premature, as the Knights will host Cincinnati (9-1, 5-1 in the AAC) on November 17th. The winner wins the AAC East and a berth in the conference championship game. ESPN will also host College Football Game Day from Orlando, so it’s not like the team is completely unknown. UCF will also play at South Florida on November 23rd to close out the regular season, which will not be easy either. The Bulls are 7-3 this season.
Here’s some highlights of UCF’s 48-20 victory over Southern Methodist back on October 26th:
