WHAT IS THE ALAMO?

From the Texas State Library and Archives Commission: “After the fall of the Alamo in 1836, the church and buildings were largely abandoned. The government of the Republic returned the chapel to the Catholic Church, but after annexation, the U.S. Government claimed it again for military use. In the ensuing years, both U.S. and Confederate forces used the building to house quartermaster stores and munitions. The U.S. Army continued to lease the property until 1876. Bishop John Claud Neraz‘s offer to sell the Alamo in 1882 was made to Frank W. Johnson, first president of the Texas Veterans’ Association…. On April 23, 1883, the Texas legislature passed an act authorizing the purchase of the Alamo. Money from the sale went to complete a new chancery building for the San Antonio diocese.”

On 1/14/2018, National Trivia Day, the Alamo posted a multiple choice question on the price.

Michael bet $9,990 and finished with $19,990.

Katie bet $4,000 and that brought her score up to $16,400.

Evelyn bet $9,601 and won the game with $24,801. Her impressive 2-day total is $52,402.

Katie’s score was brought up to $16,400, which is not enough to cover a double up by Michael, but enough to stay above Evelyn if both ladies miss, and Evelyn goes for the lockout.

  2. VJ says:

Oh, I think he just wanted to create a very memorable moment for Maria and was figuring that might be the only time he could do it on national TV. Obviously, the show was in on it and it’s their show so if it’s fine with them, it’s fine with me.

We’ve seen contestants sing, dance, recite poetry and even the alphabet backwards but this is the first time I’ve seen this. Idk what else could happen during the chat. Maybe the IRS showing up with the tax bill right after a big win?

  3. John B./I. says:

Congratulations to one and all, all players, especially Evelyn who needs just a third wir with 9.899 or more to knock Jeffrey off. And congratulations to all 3 of us who made a guess. This was unanimous.
We are in the 16th hour of a raging thunderstorm on West Maui, downtown is flooded, 3-4 inches of rain per hour. Never heard thunder that loud on Maui in 34 + years. Surprisingly we still have power……Worse than any hurricanes combined that never happened in Lahaina…

  4. Lou says:

Very good to see a triple solve on jeopardy today but that marriage proposal wasn’t necessary. I mean really? Michael should be proposing on The Bachelor instead of on jeopardy. Is he trying to show off or is he trying to play here VJ? Plus I hope Evelyn will get a streak as her personality reminds me of Lisa Schlitt. I hope that 20000 dollar payment went to funding for new churches after selling the Alamo to the state of Texas.

    • John Christian Ambion says:

@Lou Evelyn has a striking resemblance of Lisa Schlitt, alright, but she went for the lockout anyway, and now she is ONE win away from TOC contention.

  5. John Christian Ambion says:

A marriage proposal on Jeopardy! during the interviews, ended with a very EASY Final Jeopardy!
Well done to Evelyn, who is ONE win away from knocking Jeffrey Schwarz out of the Tournament of Champions leaderboard.

  6. Dennis Middlebrooks says:

Men who propose marriage in public venues, particularly on national t.v., should be rejected. They clearly hope to put their girlfriends on the spot and induce them to say yes. I am so glad that guy lost.

  7. Albert says:

I really didn’t care for that public marriage proposal. Those two have probably been living together for years.

    • John B./I. says:

Who doesn’t nowadays? As VJ said, if it’s ok with J, then fine. They have something to show their kids.
