WHAT IS BAGHDAD?
In this video, U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Rick Williamson will tell you all about the Victory over America Palace built by Saddam Hussein in Baghdad to celebrate his “victory” over the USA, to wit: they didn’t kill him or invade Baghdad during Desert Storm. He also talks about the Victory over Iran Palace that is behind the Victory over America Palace, and points out the “Flintstone” village that was part of Camp Slayer, noting that Fred Flintstone was said to be Saddam Hussein’s favorite cartoon character.
Bunny started out with Tehran but crossed it off for the right response. She doubled her score to $18,400.
Ryan bet it all as well. He finished with $23,600.
Michelle only bet $4,400 so she finished with $19,200. That made Ryan the winner. This is actually his 6th game and although his wins weren’t consecutive, we can still say he is a 5x winner of $113,798.

After looking at the reasoning for Ryan Fenster’s return I’m a bit confused. I agree he should come back because of the schism answer, but the logic behind it seems flawed. The answer to the question about St. Thomas’s death is plainly “The Great Schism of 1054”, which was between the Greek and Latin churches. From what I read he was only given credit because supposedly “Great Schism” can also refer to the “Western” or “Occidental” schism of the Catholic Church in 1378. For one, this schism had nothing to do with the Greek churches, and also, how could St. Thomas be on the way to help solve a schism that occurred over 100 years after his death in 1274?
I was so happy that Ryan Fenster won today.
Me too.
@VJ
Sorry to bother you:
By what date do you have to qualify to be in THIS year’s ToC. I believe there is a cut-off. If you qualify just the week or so before the ToC, they would put you into next year’s competition, no?
I dunno, John. All I know is:
Austin Rogers played his last regular game on 10/12/17 and he was in the ToC that began on 11/6/2017.
Matt Jackson played his last regular game on 10/14/15 and he was in the ToC that began on 11/9/2015.
hm, pretty close then. I guess they DO include everybody who qualifies before the ToC, no matter how close. Maybe there will be somebody who qualifies just a week before the ToC starts this year and then we will see. Thanks for the reply!
Oh dear, the prediction came true. When will the 3-day curse be stopped?!
@John Christian
Well, right now we are “frozen” since we have a five time champ. So until he loses, the countdown will not even start again. And the way things have been going the last 2,3 months I don’t see many 4 or 4+ game winners before the ToC.
I knew Michelle’s wagering would cost her sooner or later and it did today and cost her a TOC Spot cause she would had been at 4 wins going for #5 tomorrow and the way she was playing she would had prob got it too but was done in by her poor wagering.
@RT81
Absolutely!! I still can’t figure out what she was thinking. That second place would never get it right and bet it all???? Ah well….And CONGRATULATIONS again for your right prediction!!
ty!!
You are soooo right about Michelle. Her too conservative bets in the FJs were eventually going to catch up with her.
I was hoping Ryan was going to pull out a win. Ryan’s problem from previous games and today’s game is that he has a tendency to come from behind on the second Jeopardy board. This will eventually cost him , as it would have cost Ryan today if Michelle had more courage in FJ.
It’s easy to analyze from one’s living room. Frankly, if I ever make the show I’m not sure what strategy to employ such as big/small DD bets, big/small FJ bets, bouncing around vs staying in one category, etc… I would love to give it a shot one day.;
I am glad ryan got his redemption back again. Congrats to his fifth win. And congrats to all to the triple get. Here I thought Michelle should have bet a bit more to overtake Ryan but that bet ultimately did her in.
Also john, I agree with you now that ryan is back to give it all he got, but his previous prize the 8401 dollars didn’t actually count towards his four games he won five months ago right? Also I love the Flintstones now that you mentioned it. Let’s hope Ryan gets a streak tomorrow.
@ Lou
I am missing something here!! I reread my post. FLINTSTONES????
@Lou
Got it, Flintstone village!! Built with flint stone probably….
@Lou
And Saddam liked the Flintstones. Forgot about that. Kind of ironic, isn’t it? A guy like Hussein liking the Flintstones? That’s like Hitler liking Mickey Mouse…:):):)
Hitler actually liked Charlie Chaplin. That’s where Hitler got the idea for his moustache. Since everybody loved Chaplin, Hitler thought having the Chaplin moustache would make him more likeable. No kidding.
First of all, let’s have a BIG HAND for Michelle and Bunny. They didn’t win but they were fantastic in the main game today. I enjoyed this game so much. The ladies were really doing well most of the game and Ryan only caught up towards the end. When Michelle got the first DD, I thought it was so funny that Ryan was drumming his fingers on the podium. I clapped wildly for every DD they got. When Bunny got that last DD, Michelle had $10,400, Bunny had $8,000 and Ryan only had $2,600.
It was not that surprising that Michelle’s FJ betting style finally proved her undoing, and I also thought that Bunny could have won if she had bet bigger on her DDs.
Ah, Bunny!! We hardly knew ye! And now I have to eat Vanilla Wafers for dessert.

@VJ
With all due respect to J: the explanation why they are bringing him back is rather weak, if not to say lame. A much better reason would have been because Vincent had an obvious “blackout” or “meltdown” during FJ. But then so had others and they were not brought back. Though I have to say that “Sagan” thing still boggles my mind. I don’t think “I misread the clue” was the “real” response that Vincent wanted to give. He had it from the get go!!! SOMETHING happened there and I don’t believe it was misreading the clue, even if V. said so. “Sagan” was not even close to misreading the clue.
As I understand it, the clue Vincent actually saw had “his slang term” rather than “this slang term.” Idk how or why that happened but I still remember this one time a year ago when the CotD online said “This first novel, from 1920, incorporated some of his pieces from The Nassau, a Princeton literary magazine” but on the show it was “His first novel.”
In other words, stuff happens
VJ, I think Bunny deserves a consolation carrot cake, she played a great game. I also enjoyed her story about how she got her nickname.
You’re right, Rhonda. l liked Bunny’s story too.
I have a cousin whose childhood nickname was Bunny. Her real name is Virginia and I know my mom told me how she got the nickname but I can’t remember it
It’s quite a cute nickname, VJ!
It is, Rhonda. My mom’s nickname from childhood was Pinky because she was the smallest of 3 girls. Bunny was her niece.
Pinky is very cute, too, VJ. When my son was in elementary school, there was a girl in his class whose name was actually Pinky.
That’s cool, Rhonda. There was a girl in my 7th grade class whose name was Cookie. Back then, they didn’t let you go by nicknames in school, so I guess that was her real name, too.
Carl Sagan explained: Vincent is coming back too!
@JP, I was just coming over here to post that same link (Jacob sent me an email about it). So I moved your comment to the top.
VJ, have you ever used Adobe photoshop before? I wanted to ask that because I wonder if you had taken it back in school in the old days. I also wonder if saddam Hussein took interest in The Jetsons as well?
@Lou, no, I never took any Photoshop courses and they didn’t even have it when I was in school. When I made my first website, JASC software gave me a free copy of Paint Shop Pro. I managed to learn that with the help of some online courses and also Corel Draw and Corel Paint.
I was so surprised to hear that Army sergeant say that Fred Flintstone was Saddam’s favorite. I loved the Flintstones and Cinderellastone is one of my all time top cartoons.
I wonder if Saddam ever saw that South Park movie they parodied him in.
Why is he coming back?
@Richard, the previous clue back in february the great schism thing gave ryan a disadvantage so the judges wanted to be fair and bring him back for a few more rounds. Therefore since the TOC is frozen, we have to see how much more Ryan can win. Also since vincent is coming back, we will see how they do before the six week break,
@Lou
I don’t know if Vincent will be back before the ToC. It took them over 5 months to bring Ryan back. His original loss was in February I think?! So Vincent might not be back before the ToC and I also believe they have some kind of cutoff date for the ToC in November. If you qualify AFTER that date you would be in next year’s ToC. I am sure that VJ knows the exact dates/rules for the ToC quals.
45/60 here. The Summer reruns start on July 30th and continue for six weeks. Presumably the reruns will be the TofC, College, and the Teachers tourneys. If there is a TofC next season, it would probably be in Feb or May 2019. It was said on Reddit that they’ll be calling the people who passed the audition for the Teen tourney in late July, so my guess is there’ll be a Teen tourney in November sweeps. They might do a celeb week also, or even less likely but possible, something commemorating their 35th anniversary in syndication
Hold your horses. (Neighs)
I’m very happy that Ryan Fenster got his redemption. Take that Schism!
@William
Couldn’t agree more!!! He might actually be a factor to be reckoned with at the ToC!
Congratulations to Ryan! He was rightfully brought back and won again, though Michelle handed him the victory on a silver platter.
Now I don’t get Michelle. Obviously she is smart. After all she got 3 out of 4 FJs right and ended up in first place 3 out of 4 as well. She lucked out three times (never so much as when Vincent had her beaten already and then “Sagan” came up…)
Since Ryan was already on the ToC list nothing has changed, he just moved up to #5 and Michelle’s betting cost her a shot at the ToC.
