Washington Capitals Advance to NHL Eastern Conference Finals

After losing in the conference semi finals two years in a row to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, the Washington Capitals finally beat their nemesis in this year’s semis. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in overtime for Washington as the Capitals beat the Penguins 2-1 to win their series 4-2.

Big things have been expected of the Capitals the last few years, only to have them come up short (or under achieve) in the post season. Washington has only one conference title in franchise history, that one in the 1997-98 season; the Caps lost to the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup final. But before the Capitals can advance to the finals, they will have to get past the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Finals. In the West, the Vegas Golden Knights await the winner of the Winnipeg-Nashville series which is tied at 3-3.
