Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/12/2018) in the category “First Lady Facts” was:
In 1982, when Bess Truman died, she had been enrolled in this government program for about 17 years, longer than anyone else.
New champ Mark Ashton, won $29,100 last Friday. In his second game, he is up against these two players: Zach Dark, from Hoover, AL; and Ashley O’Mara, from Baldwinsville, NY.
Round 1 Categories: The 7 Ancient Wonders – This Is Not a Drill (or Is It?) – Reversible Compound Words – “M”Tertainment – Beauty Trends – Quoth the Amendment
Ashley found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Quoth the Amendment” under the $600 clue on the 7th pick of the round. She was in second place with $600, $400 less than Zach’s lead. She went with a true Daily Double, rather than the $1,000 allowance and thought it was the Sixth. That was WRONG.

Zach finished in the lead with $4,600. Mark was second with $2,000 and Ashley was last with $1,600.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS MEDICARE?
The Medicare Bill was signed into law on 7/30/1965 by LBJ, in the presence of Harry Truman, their wives and VP Hubert Humphrey, among others, at the Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Mo. Johnson said: “I am so proud that this has come to pass in the Johnson administration. But it was really Harry Truman of Missouri who planted the seeds of compassion and duty which have today flowered into care for the sick, and serenity for the fearful.” LBJ returned to Independence on 1/20/1966 for a different ceremony. At that time, he witnessed Truman signing his Medicare application, told him “we haven’t forgotten who is the real Daddy of Medicare” and presented the Trumans with the first two Medicare cards. More on the LBJ Presidential Library website.
A $100 clue in “1966” from 9/25/1997: In January this former president & his wife Bess were presented with the first 2 Medicare cards. (They also like you to know that Bess Truman was born Elizabeth Wallace and that, so far, she lived longer than any other First Lady.)
Ashley came up with Social Security. She didn’t bet anything so she remained at $600.
Mark got it right. With another zero bet, he stayed at $6,000.
Zach got it right, too. His $5,000 bet brought his winnings today up to $29,000. He is the new Jeopardy! champ.

We haven’t had too many leader curses ever since the back to back streaks in January 2018 and from Rob Worman but will that continue this month for Zach, VJ? Mark should have bet 6000 even if it doesn’t mean he wins the game again. Do you know if you have relatives that applied for Medicare, without paying out of pocket expenses?
@Lou, I don’t know why you think Mark should have bet everything. Why shouldn’t he keep what he had and just win the $2K?
