WHAT IS OTTAWA?

The origin of Ottawa’s name was one of the 150 Capital Facts that The Ottawa Citizen rolled out last year to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday: Bytown became Ottawa in 1855, a name believed to come from an Algonquin-speaking First Nation, likely from the word “adawe,” meaning to trade…. As British poet Rupert Brooke wrote in Letters from America, published in 1916, “the ghosts of the old chiefs must surely chuckle when they note that the name by which Canada has called her capital and the centre of her political life, Ottawa, is an Indian name which signifies ‘buying and selling.’”

Sarah bet $4,000 to finish with $8,400.

Lee bet $10,300 bet, bringing him up to $23,600.

Rachel bet $10,000 so she won the match with $24,800. Rachel Lindgren is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Lee played brilliantly today but congrats to all for getting final jeopardy right. Let’s see how well Rachel will do next week in her second game. Ottawa is such a beautiful place with numerous tourist attractions. When was the last time you visited Canada, VJ? I heard that thunder bay is a great beach to visit during the summer.

    • VJ says:

Lee and Rachel were neck and neck for most of the game I thought Lee should have bet everything in FJ. He already had $40 something thousand under his belt, so he didn’t need to worry about that extra $1,000 for second place. tsk tsk.

Unlike yesterday there were a lot of triple stumpers today.

P.S. to Lou, last time I was in Canada was in the 90’s, just for a side shopping trip when I was really staying in Vermont.

      • Lou says:

Very nice! I think you had an enjoyable trip to canada during that time. Were you actually skiing in vermont? Still though I hope you had photos taken during the trip, VJ.

Overall, I have to give lee props for his performance, but I was certain that he would have the skills of Justin Vossler or Hunter Appler for that matter I mean he had the potential to win more.

My family and I were thinking of planning a trip to vermont next fall so that is in the works.

        • VJ says:

@Lou, overall, I agree. Lee had 2 runaways but Rachel was killing it with that buzzer today. idk, in the situation today or anytime like it, a player in his position betting it all (whether they succeed or not) says to me, I really want to win another game, but that’s just me.

ha ha ha, the very idea of me on skis has tears of laughter running down my face. I never liked going out in the snow at all. That trip wasn’t in the winter anyhow.
