TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS NEW ORLEANS?

In May 2015, The Times-Picayune posted the news that “For the first time since Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans has returned to the list of America’s 50 most populous cities,” taking over Arlington, Texas’ spot. They thought that would allow New Orleans to better promote itself as largely recovered from the August 2005 hurricane that devastated the Gulf Coast. In its wake, the population of New Orleans dwindled to 230,172 by 2006. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated The Big Easy’s 2014 population at 384,320, up from 379,006 in 2013.

Mary wrote down Detroit. She lost her $2,000 bet. That left her $15,200 today. Yesterday’s $3,600 brought her up to $18,800.

Nan got it right. She didn’t bet anything. Today’s $17,800 was added to yesterday’s $9,000 and she finished with $26,800.

David also got it right. He bet $17,800 so his winning score for this match was $36,000. Alex announced him as the tournament champ before they even added in his $10,000 from yesterday! They showed his $46,000 finish very briefly before changing it to the $100,000 grand prize.

Another flashback reaction for David, and this time Mary who got the Daily Double correct after wagering the $1,000 maximum in the Jeopardy! Round, and Nan who was clapping for David.

  2. mimsy says:

Congratulations to David. I especially was rooting for him to win after the game where he made that big true Daily Double to catch up and was so nervous, he sort of choked when saying it. The last two games were a combination of the stars being in his favor and working for it.

  3. Richard Corliss says:

That’s okay, Nan and Mary you did your best. See ya later, David.

  4. VJ says:

Did anyone notice at the end when Alex called David “the man from Waco, Texas”? David was always introduced as from Fort Worth.

LINK: I put up 12 clues from the match, mostly from the last rows. I only counted 3 triple stumpers in this whole match!! 2 are already on here.

Congrats David on winning the teacher’s tournament! And this year’s ladies did spectacularly well too. Hurricane Katrina is becoming a memory in all of our hearts though no matter how bad it might be, it brings good in us to move on and stay strong. So it seems that Fred Vaughn will be back in the 2018 tournament of champions since Justin Bender is there too. I just hope that Ragavan will win more games next week.

    • Richard Corliss says:

No, Fred is knocked out of the tracker.

      • Lou says:

I know that but I’m.saying that he could be back in the 2018 tournament so he has a while. Same with Phillip tiu and justin bender

        • Richard Corliss says:

Did you look at the tournament of champions tracker on the Jeopardy! website? Phillip and Justin are out.

  6. Dalton Higbee says:

In fact, Last years Teachers Tournament was better than this years imo.

  7. Dalton Higbee says:

I was surprised that one of the ladies did not win, but congrats to David!

  8. VJ says:

Wow! Well, I did have that feeling that the ladies would be a little gun-shy in the FJ betting department after yesterday. Didn’t really matter.

Continuing the Katrina memories — I remember reading an article in an online Swiss newspaper. They were fretting over the whereabouts of Fats Domino.
