Jamie finished in the lead with $6,400. Deborah was second with $3,400 and Kevin was last at minus $200.

Jamie found the first Daily Double in “Border Frenzy” under the $1,600 clue with 6 clues to go after it. He was in the lead with $15,600 at this point, $8,200 more than Kevin in second place. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT.

Deborah found the last Daily Double in “Sports Trophies” under the $2,000 clue, with only one clue left after it. In second place with $7,800, she had $9,200 less than Jamie’s lead. She bet $2,000 and thought it was the Lombardi Trophy. That was WRONG.

Jamie finished with a runaway $17,000. Kevin was next with $7,400 and Deborah was in third place with $5,800.

WHAT IS CLEMSON UNIVERSITY?
John C. Calhoun was a politician from South Carolina who held many prominent offices, among them Vice President of the USA under the 6th and 7th Presidents. Thomas Green Clemson was the husband of Anna Maria Calhoun, the only Calhoun child (out of 10) to survive both her parents. When Anna died in 1875, “it was her wish that her husband preserve her father’s house and use the land for a state agricultural college.” Clemson died in 1888, leaving the bulk of his estate to establish what became Clemson University in South Carolina, with very specific instructions on how to do it in his will.

Deborah got it right. She added $2,500, bringing her up to $8,300.
Kevin got it, too. He bet it all and finished with $14,800.
Jamie thought it was Vanderbilt (last FJ clue: 10-30-15). That cost him $1,500 but he retained $15,500 and that made him the new Jeopardy! champ.

Kevin did not form a question with his answer of indy 500. Can not believe Alex or judges didn’t catch that. I checked my recording 3 times and he did not say “what is”, just indy 500. Didn’t make any difference in the end but it might have.
@Karen, I’m sure the judges have the ability to look at their tape and see if a player said “what is” or “who is” or whatever much better than viewers from what I call “the sound squiggles.” I know when I used to make mp3s of kids reading poems for me on the computer, I would tell them they didn’t have to start all over if they made a mistake– just repeat the line right and keep going because I can edit out the mistakes and all the uh’s and giggles. So I think we can trust the judges very near 100%. (Of course, we’re all subject to human error).
In the beginning of this month, there was a fellow who thought Abigail said “debug” and not “debugged,” in this game and I actually considered making a slowed down soundbite of her response so the “d” sound at the end of her response could be picked up better, but then he came back and insisted he heard a “g” sound, and I realized he really did not want to know what she said. He wanted to be right.
One contestant last night did not answer in the form of a question. It was the guy on the right and I forget the question. Surprised nobody picked it up.
I noticed that, too, and thought perhaps I just didn’t hear him.
Maybe this isn’t the clue you’re talking about but I did notice that Kevin just answered “Top Gun” to the $200 clue in 3+3. It didn’t matter– it was a wrong answer. Same thing, when he piped up with Tajikistan without “what is” on the $1200 Border Frenzy clue. He tried to add “what is” but that wasn’t the problem. It was just wrong.
There were a couple other clues where it sounded like he didn’t put it in the form of a question, but he was just talking fast imo (and I did listen to the recording again when I typed up some of the clues)

VJ, congrats on your prediction. Even though Clemson won the NCAA football championship didn’t think its history would be on many people’s radar. Also, didn’t think Calhoun would be either. Shows it’s hard to predict contestant responses.
I thought tonight’s game was good and fast-paced. I’m sure Trebek enjoyed having to hold up the “fuzzy wuzzy.” I wouldn’t. 🙂
Thanks Jacob. LOL on the Tribble. It brought me back to my 20s. My husband was a Trekkie and leaving him little notes on various topics was my idea of a funny prank. (I had to do it that way because I can never keep a straight face). My favorite Star Trek note was “Captain Kirk is a jerk”
Tough break for Deborah on that last DD. She was doing okay in that category otherwise. That was one situation I wished she bet more and got an easier DD (like the previous one)
