In her memoirs Queen Liliuokalani tells us that before Hawaii had its own national anthem, it used this one.

Carl benefited from a reversal at this point (see below). That got him out of the hole and he had $1,000. Kirstin bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Carl found the last Daily Double in “19th Century Businessmen” under the $1,200 clue. In the lead with $14,800, he got dinged for $2,400 on another reversal (see below). So he had $12,400, $5,000 more than Jody in second place. He bet $4,000 and thought it was Waldorf. That was WRONG.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
In her memoir, Queen Liliuokalani wrote: “In the early years of the reign of Kamehameha V, he brought to my notice the fact that the Hawaiian people had no national air. Each nation, he said, but ours had its statement of patriotism and love of country in its own music; but we were using for that purpose on state occasions the time-honored British anthem, ‘God Save the Queen.'” An accomplished composer, it only took Liliuokalani a week to produce “He Mele Lahui Hawaii.”
Her 1866 composition replaced “E Ola Ke Alii Ke Akua” (“God Save the King”), an 1860 anthem composed by Prince Lunalilo setting Hawaiian lyrics to the British national anthem, which had been used in its native form before then. The Queen’s anthem was replaced by Hawai’i Pono’i, written by her brother, King Kalākaua, now the official state song of Hawaii.
Jody wrote down “Aloha Oy.” She lost her $3,200 bet and finished with $6,200.
Kirstin got it right. She only bet $201, bringing her up to $11,001.
Carl had “Aloha Oe” (what Jody meant and Queen Liliuokalani’s most famous song). He lost his $8,801 bet, landing him in third place with $3,999.

I added the Zora Neale Hurston clue on the second page. I saw a tweet that asked if Kirstin gave the title wrong so I watched it over again.
I didn’t notice that she didn’t get the title right when I was watching it because my own answer overlapped hers. I don’t think it affected the game outcome and I guess they’ll let her keep the $$.
I chose British national Anthem Would that have been acceptable?
I don’t see why not. I’d take it. I would take “God Save the King” too since the anthem before Queen Liliuokalani’s translated to “King” not “Queen.”
Also VJ I am betting Carl never saw the movie titanic so that’s why he did not get that second daily double. Waldorf was a bad guess
Yeah, that was a tough break for Carl there, first losing $2400 on the reversal, then $4000 on the DD. Rather amazing that Trebek didn’t catch that he said the author’s last name wrong to begin with.
