Kris Bryant’s Record Setting Game
Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2015, and is making a bid for the league’s Most Valuable Player Award here in 2016. Bryant became the first major league player to hit three home runs and two doubles in the same game in the Cubs’ 11-8 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati on June 27th. His 16 total bases is a Cubs franchise record.
After that performance, Bryant was hitting .278 with 21 homers and 57 RBIs. He is tied with Colorado’s Nolan Arenado and Cincinnati’s Adam Duval for the National League lead in homers, and is third behind Arenado and Cincinnati’s Jay Bruce in RBIs. Arenado, 25, and Bryant, 24, are both great young third baseman, and it could come down to the wire between them for the MVP Award.
Though the Cubs have cooled off a bit, losing six of eight, this victory improved their record to 49-32. They lead the second place St. Louis Cardinals by 10 games.

I will always favor the hitting stats of a Cub over a Rockies’ player, if at all seemingly comparable. Of course, the possibility that Bryant’s toughest competition for MVP sits in his own dugout remains strong.
