WHAT IS TASMANIA?

Just as there are several states (Florida, Louisiana, Texas, etc.) in the USA inhabited by alligators, there are several Australian states (Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania) where the platypus lives. Tasmania is, however, the only island.

Erin wrote down New Zealand. She bet and lost everything she had.

Laurie thought it was Papua New Guinea. That cost her $6,601. She had $3,599 left.

Tim got it right. He bet $6,901 so he won the match with $20,401 and he will return as the new Jeopardy! champ on the first day of June. Alex Trebek asked Tim if that was a guess and he said: “It was either that or Australia.”

    The clue was fair.

    PACIFIC ISLANDS (wikipedia)

  2. Dan says:

I think the other two may have thought of Tasmania, but eliminated it as a possibility due to the fact that the clue said “Pacific island” and Tasmania is actually located in the Tasman sea. The clue was actually misleading and they should get another chance. Just my opinion.

  3. Brian says:

Tasmania is an island but is also an Australian state. If that is the case would not any state in Australia (which is an island- the world’s largest island continent) also be correct. Ask any Australian what island the platypus is indigenous to and it would be Australia and/or Tasmania

    • VJ says:

@Brian – Here’s how I see it: Florida is a state. Australia is a country. (Same reason to rule out any island nation in that area if you didn’t know that platypus = Eastern Australia).

I gave the other Australian states where the platypus is native in the info segment of the recap, but they are not islands so they can’t be right.

  4. Brian says:

Since when has Australia not been an island??????

  5. VJ says:

Things did change dramatically in the Obscure Oscar category. At the start of it the scores were Erin $7,600 Tim $16,400 Laurie $6,600

    By the end, they were E $10,000 T $12,800 L $10,200

That whole category and more triple stumpers are over here now
