Gold Digger by Kanye West

10 years ago, Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” was just finishing up a 10-week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Gold Digger featured actor Jamie Foxx, who played Ray Charles the previous year in “Ray” and won the Best Actor Oscar in February 2005.

Some people felt it was awful for them to include the Ray Charles sample from his first 1954 No. 1 hit “I Got a Woman.” But it’s at least interesting that in the lyrics of the original song, the woman is giving the man money and “She knows a woman’s place is right there now in her home.”

A year later, in 2005, Weird Al did the “Gold Digger Polka,” and one youtube commenter said he ruined a good song, referring to the Kanye West hit.
