Final Jeopardy: Artists’ Subjects (11-12-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (11/12/2015) in the category “Artists Subjects” was:
The woman seen here, who was born in North Carolina and died in England in 1881, was the subject of this painting.
In the 4th quarter-final of the 2015 Tournament of champions, the players are: 6x champ Kerry Greene vs. 5x champ Andrew Haringer vs. 4x champ Elliot Yates.
Round 1: Andrew found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Literary Structure” under the $600 clue right before the first break. He was in second place with nothing, $3,400 less than Kerry’s lead. Elliot was $2,600 in the red. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT.
Referring to a symbol on the U.S. $1 bill, the first book in the “Illuminatus!” trilogy is “The Eye in”. show
Kerry finished in the lead with $4,400. Andrew was second with $3,600 and Elliot was last with $0, but happy to be out of the red.
Round 2: Andrew found the first Daily Double in “Outside the Bachs” under the $1,600 clue on the 5th pick of the round. He was in second place with $4,000, half of Kerry’s lead. Music teacher Andrew bet it all and he was RIGHT.
It makes sense that the Handel suites known by this title were first performed on a barge. show
Kerry found the last Daily Double in “19th Century America” under the $800 clue. In the lead with $12,400, she had $2,000 more than Andrew in second place. She bet $4,000 and she was RIGHT.
While serving as Secretary of State 1861-69, he tried to annex the Dominican Republic & the Hawaiian Islands. show
Kerry finished in the lead with $18,000. Andrew was right on her heels with $17,200 and Elliot was in third place with $3,600.
ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right. That droopy ol’ bonnet gave it away.
WHAT IS WHISTLER’S MOTHER or ARRANGEMENT IN GREY AND BLACK?
Find a Grave has a short biography of Whistler’s mother with a photo of the entrance to the cemetery where her remains are buried. “Anna McNeill was born [in 1804] in Wilmington, North Carolina. In 1831 she married George Washington Whistler, a widower with three children, and they had two sons, James and William….” There are also links to the pages dedicated to the graves of her relatives and spouse. Whistler’s father died in Russia but is buried in Connecticut.
Elliot bet it all and finished with $7,200.
Andrew bet $2,200. That brought him up to $19,400.
Kerry bet $4,000 so she won a semi-final spot with $22,000.
So it’s adios to Elliot Yates and Kristin Sausville. They each get $5,000, and here are the wild card scores now:
$19,400 Andrew Haringer
$16,599 Vaughn Winchell
$15,000 John Schultz
$14,000 Dan Feitel
2 years ago:: ALL of the players got this FJ in “Symbols”
One legend says Clovis, King of the Franks, adopted this symbol after flowers revealed a safe river crossing for his army. show

don’t know why, didn’t really notice. Had a different email the other day.
Horrible bets by the two leaders. It’s very simple: risk vs. return .
I wouldn’t have faulted Dan for a bet of 801.
16,000 will get you into every tournament I can remember.
Another picture fj or easier fj’s.
Seems so simple. At least one should get it right.
I guess it’s safe to say that we will never see this clue on Jeopardy:
CHARACTERS REAL FIRST NAMES: $2,000 – Junior Soprano
Dominic Chianese played Uncle June in “The Sopranos”. He also played Johnny Ola in “Godfather” and Leander Whitlock in “Boardwalk Empire.”
Uncle Junior’s real first name was Corrado.
36/61 here.
@vj, we couldn’t believe this would be a fj and it was. 🙂 🙂 🙂
What the ….?
yup, unbelievable. Hey, if it was a hard one that both Kerry and Andrew missed and they had the same bets, that would have made Andrew the semi-finalist and Kerry would have finished with the same score as Dan Feitel
We just had that clue in J! very recently, like, a month or so, didn’t we?
September 30th according to J-Archive
Seriously? And they have the same clue on a TOC? What’s wrong with these writers?
Sorry, but I’m still seething from that convoluted, horribly constructed FJ yesterday. Overpaid — [fill in the blank).
We would undoubtedly dub this the easiest clue of the week in a regular week, nevermind the TOC.
But how about this one that has been used twice and was a triple stumper both times.
ART & ARTISTS $1200: The British painter & engraver Gainsborough DuPont was the nephew & assistant of this artist. LINK
Maybe next time they can work Uncle Thomas in somewhere.
Yeah, that being a TS both times is kinda weird, but at least the writers waited 2 years to repeat the clue. But 1 1/2 month, c’mon!
And we still await Schopenhauer…

idk about the avatar — using a different email, I guess
That makes Eliott out! Kristin’s out as well. Tomorrow’s predictions are Alex wins and Michael becomes a wild card.
I think Alex J. is going to win while Scott and Michael are eliminated.
