Final Jeopardy: The Sculptor Speaks (3-24-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (3/24/2015), in the category “The Sculptor Speaks” was:

2x champ, Alex Navissi has won $26,901 so far. Today he takes on these two players: Gautam Mukunda, from Boston, MA; and Cindy Garner, from Omaha, NE.
Round 1: Gautam found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Everybody’s Talkin’ ’bout Them” under the $1,000 clue before the first break. He was in the lead with $600. Alex was in second place even though he had no money. Cindy was in the hole for $1,200. Gautam bet the $1,000 allowance, and he was RIGHT. (And yes, we did notice that politician was misspelled.)

Gautam finished in the lead with $7,400. Alex was second with $2,200 and Cindy was now in the hole for $2,600.
Round 2: Cindy found the first Daily Double in “British Literature” under the $2,000 clue. She was now in third place with $3,800, $4,400 less than Gautam’s lead. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

Gautam found the last Daily Double in “Turning Over a New Reef” under the $1,600 clue. In the lead with $15,800, he had $5,600 more than Cindy in second place. It was the first clue chosen in this category. Gautam said he had “no idea” what the category was about but bet $1,800 and he was RIGHT.

Gautam finished in the lead with $18,800. Cindy was next with $12,200 and Alex was in third place with $6,200.

Alex got it right and bet $6,000. He finished with $12,200.
Cindy thought it was Da Vinci. That cost her $6,600 and she wound up with $5,600.
Gautam also got it right. He already was the new Jeopardy! champ at this point but his $5,601 bet brought him up to a $24,401 haul for this match.
During the chat, Gautam talked about his experience in Rustenburg, South Africa where he went into a platinum mine to study the safety practices of a company. The workspace in the mine is only three feet high, he explained, “so you’re on your hands and knees with your head touching the ceiling working a steam drill for, say, 12 hours a shift.” Doesn’t sound very safe at all, does it? But Trebek said he would add it to his bucket list!

Got to love the way Gautam smiled when he responded correctly with the “B” school response given that he is a professor at Harvard’s Business School. Sure hope a Business category pops up tomorrow with a DD in it. He would eat it up. Nice going Gautam. Holding it down for the professoriate!!
Kudos to Cindy although she got fj wrong. Nice going digging herself out of the red. Classic example of never give up. Talk about “the comeback kid!” 😀

strange bet by cindy. why would she go for a tie? (if she had been right and gautam had wagered nothing). not that it mattered in the end, but just curious.
