Martin Brodeur Retires as Player, Joins St. Louis Blues Front Office

Martin Brodeur, the National Hockey League goalie who is the all time career leader in wins, has decided to call it quits. Brodeur, 42, had signed with the St. Louis Blues as a fill in when Brian Elliot was out with an injury and appeared in seven games, winning three and losing three. Brodeur decided to retire after Elliot returned, and accepted a position in the Blues’ front office.

Brodeur is with the Blues organization now, but the rest of his career that began in the 1991-2 season was spent with the New Jersey Devils. He is the all time leader in regular season victories, with a total of 691. He added 113 more in the post season, which is second all time behind Patrick Roy’s 151. He’s the career leader in a bunch more categories as well. Brodeur won three Stanley Cups with the Devils (1994-95, 1999-2000, and 2002-03). He also won Gold Medals with Canada’s Olympic teams in the 2002 and 2010 Games. Brodeur said that while he is joining the Blues front office now, he may return to New Jersey and take a front office position there in the future.
