Giants and Royals Tied at One Game Apiece as World Series Heads to San Francisco

After dropping Game 1 of the 2014 World Series, the Kansas City Royals scored five runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 October 22nd to beat San Francisco 7-2. The Series now goes to San Francisco. Game 3 is Friday night October 34th.

In Game 1, San Francisco’s Hunter Pence got things going in the first inning with a two run home run, helping stake the Giants to a 3-0 lead.

Maybe it’s just us, but Pence looks just a little wild eyed. The Giants got all the offense they needed in the first, as starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner was lights out, allowing one run in 7 innings in the 7-1 victory.

In Game 2, the Giants pitching fell apart as starter Jake Peavy allowed four runs in five innings and reliever Hunter Strickland pitched to two batters and allowed two earned runs without recording an out.

We’re guessing this may be the first time a team in the World Series has had two players named “Hunter”. Strickland is a rookie who made just nine appearances with the Giants in the regular season. He’s already given up six runs in 5 1/3 innings in the post season, but the Giants may need to use him more than they like. Starter Turned Reliever Tim Lincecum left the game with tightness in his lower back, and was to receive an MRI.
