Patton: 1970 Best Picture

“Patton” won the Best Picture Oscar at the 43rd Academy Awards over “Airport”, “Five Easy Pieces”, “Love Story” and “MASH”.

George C. Scott had already informed the Academy that he rejected the Best Actor nomination and would not accept the Oscar if he won. And that’s why presenter Goldie Hawn has this reaction when announcing the winner:

“Patton” producer, Frank McCarthy accepted the award onstage. IMDB says McCarthy returned it to the Academy the next day pursuant to Scott’s wishes.
