Alex Trebek Hurt During Burglary
Alex Trebek injured his Achilles tendon while chasing a burglar out of his hotel room on Tuesday, July 26th. The longtime “Jeopardy” host appeared at the National Geographic World Championship in San Francisco on crutches. The ever suave and articulate Trebek offered up this explanation of his condition to the audience:
“I deal with answers and questions, and today I’m going to start with the answer to a question I suspect is on many of your minds right now. The answer is ‘At 2:30 yesterday morning, chasing a burglar down the hall …”
In the process his Achilles tendon ruptured and, Trebek said, he fell “in an ignominious heap” bruising his other leg as well.
He later added that he would undergo surgery on Friday, July 28th, to resolve the problem.
CNN contacted the San Francisco Police Department to obtain further details on the crime and learned that both Alex and his wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, were sleeping in the room, when Alex became aware that someone was moving about. He chased the intruder down the hall while his wife notified hotel security. Security detained the suspect and the Trebeks both identified 56-year-old Lucinda Moyers as the culprit. She has been charged with burglary and receiving stolen property.
So it looks like Alex Trebek fell in that “ignominious heap” in his pajamas!
Update: OMG! Our idle speculation about Alex Trebek’s pajamas turns out to be wrong. In an interview with the Today Show on Thursday, July 28, Alex Trebek inadvertently revealed that he sleeps in the nude! Trebek said he immediately got out of bed and put on his underwear before running after the hotel room thief. We’re still trying to figure out how she got in the room in the first place.
