WHAT IS COLOMBIA?
In South America, the Granadine Confederation (1858-1863)included present-day Colombia, Panama and northwestern parts of Brazil. It was the successor to the Republic of New Granada (1831-1858), which was the successor to Gran Colombia, the earliest use of “Columbia”, per this timeline of Colombian history. The Granadine Confederation was succeeded by the United States of Colombia, followed by the Republic of Colombia.
Apparently, they chose to return to the original idea of honoring Christopher Columbus for “finding” the “New World.” The only area of South America that Columbus is known to have explored is the coast of Venezuela, formerly a part of Gran Colombia. There are more places named for Columbus in the “New World” and Europe than you can shake the proverbial stick at.
Catherine got it right. She bet $4,000 and finished with $8,400.
Erik went with Dominica. He lost him $7,199 and was left him with $1.00.
Jamie came up with Bolivia. That cost him $16,200 but he won the game with the $18,600 he had left. Jamie’s 22-day total is $627,600.
