Dodgers Rally to Win World Series

The Toronto Blue Jays were two outs away from their first World Series championship in 32 years in Game 7 on November 1st. But two outs away isn’t the same as winning, as the Jays opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, showed.

In the top of the ninth, with Toronto leading 4-3, L.A.s Miguel Rojas hit a solo home run to tie it. Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had started Game 6 the day before, kept the Jays scoreless and it went to the 10th inning. Neither club scored in the 10th. With two outs in the top of the 11th, Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit a 366 foot homer to left to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the 11th, with Yamamoto still on the mound, the Blue Jays had runners at first and third with one out, Alejandro Kirk grounded into a double play and the Dodgers had repeated as World Series champions. It was the franchise’s ninth World Series championship.

Yamamoto was named the World Series MVP. He was the winning pitcher in three games, and had an ERA of 1.02 with 15 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched. He is the first pitcher since Randy Johnson in 2001 to win three games in one World Series.

This turns out to be the worst World Series Game 7 ever. Shameful that it ended in a heartbreaking fashion. Baseball is forever ruined.
