Larry King’s Dumb Liz Taylor Remark
People say some dumb things when people die. Here’s one from Larry King on the passing of Elizabeth Taylor that takes the cake.
We’ll never see her likes again. She’s the end of an era and, as I said earlier, there’s not one movie star who could pass away today who would be a bigger story than her.
A bigger story? What in the world does he mean by that and why would he even say such a thing?
And he says “as I said earlier.” Does that mean he said it before and no one bothered to tell him how crass it sounds? When we saw it, he was talking to A.J. Hammer on ShowBiz Tonight.
We’re not going to reel off a list of elderly celebrities who were legends in their day and continue to have many loyal fans, only because we don’t want to give these stars yet another reminder that to these reporters, that’s all they are: a big story. They already know that anyway.
But still, it shouldn’t be about who is the biggest story and that was a messed up thing to say.
I get the point, though, and I agree this was an idiotic remark. There is no need for these types of superlatives. Larry King would probably say something similar about Sophia Loren if he’s still around.
Yeah, but still I think Larry King was really touched by her passing. What do I know? …:)
