Mikaela Shiffrin Wins 100th World Cup Ski Race
Three months ago, U.S. Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin was sitting on 99 World Cup ski race victories after seriously injuring herself wiping out in a race in Vermont. It was weeks before she could take to the slopes again, but all indications are that she is back. On February 23rd, Shiffrin won the slalom at a World Cup event at Sestriere, Italy for that 100th World Cup victory of her career, extending her record for most wins on the World Cup circuit.
Shiffrin finished 0.61 seconds ahead of Zrinka Ljutic of Croatia. Paula Moltazn of the U.S. was third. The 29 year old Shiffrin has competed in three Olympics, winning the Gold in the Slalom in 2014, and a Gold in the Giant Slalom and a silver in the Women’s Combined in 2018. She competed in six events in the 2022 games, which were a nightmare for her. She did not medal in any events. With her injuries healed, she’ll get another shot at the Olympics next February.
