Kelly found the first Daily Double in “Biology” under the $800 clue on the 13th pick of the round. She was in the lead with $10,800, $2,400 more than Rishabh in second place. Kelly bet $4,000 and she was RIGHT.

WHAT IS “THE GREAT GATSBY”?
In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby”, the fictional locations of East Egg and West Egg are respectively where old money (to the manor born) and nouveau riche (first generation wealth) live. It’s long been said that Fitzgerald patterned these locations after Sands Point and Kings Point on Long Island. Fitzgerald began writing “The Great Gatsby” while living in Kings Point (West Egg) for a couple of years in the early ’20s. The reason this came up again in a slew of 2011 articles, including the NY Times’ “Adieu, Sweet Life of ’20s Luxury”, is because of the 2011 demolition of Land’s End, the mansion rumored to be the template for Daisy Buchanan’s home. Good to know: A 1986 Jeopardy! triple stumper about Kings Point had nothing to do with F. Scott Fitzgerald: NEW YORK STATE ($1000) Kings Point, N.Y. academy that’s military in character but run by the Dept. of Commerce
Kyle bet $5,600 and finished with $11,400.
Rishabh bet it all and doubled his score to $23,200.
Kelly bet $10,001 and won the game with $23,201. Kelly Gates is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Saw FJ and nothing else. Having spent my formative youth in Queens, I knew Sands and Kings Points well enough to lead me to East and West Egg. Good on all of them for getting it. Once again, DDs unkind to me.
Re: FJ from 2 years ago: a bit surprised no one got that. My 10th grade English teacher taught us the symbolism of the knitting.
The 5-word phrase/title was easy. Link to the climate event not functioning; what is it? Knew the twin playwrights; both titles mentioned were outstanding films. Never heard of deglutition, but it reminded me of the fancy term for sneezing (sternutation). The “oo” cowboy term was gettable.

Kelly just squeaked by in becoming the next Jeopardy champion. Congratulations to her! As for me, I did average in the game, and should have nailed the FJ.
Coincidence department: There’s a Gunsmoke episode with a character named Kyle Kelly. He was portrayed by the same actor who played Festus Haggen on that series. It would be really funny if they get two contestants name Ken and Curtis (the actor’s name).
Some of those stumpers were way out there but I knew the “oo” ones. My father used to call me Veronica Lake if my hair fell across my eyes. My great grandson got the short version of the cowboy nickname after I bought him a stick horse and cowboy hat.
Yes, Veronica Lake’s hairstyle was a very popular fad during the 1940s. Her best known film was arguably the 1942 fantasy ‘I Married A Witch’.
Way back in HS (late 60s), my hair was not long at all, but I had a wave in front that went over my right eyebrow. My manager at work called me Veronica Lake.

Finally all three players got FJ! correct for the first time this season. It took 30 games for that to happen this season.
