Final Jeopardy: Shakespeare (9-25-24)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (9/25/2024) in the category “Shakespeare” was:
“Blood will have blood”, says this title character, who is later told, “Be bloody, bold, & resolute”
2x champ David Erb, a puzzle designer from Seattle, WA, has now won $17,655. In Game 3, he takes on these two players: Drew Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, HA; and Diane Lochner, a librarian from Nicollet, MN.
Round 1 Categories: Animal Groups – Lit-pourri – Before They Were Stars – Classic Cocktails – Old-Fashioned – 7 & 7
Drew found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Old-Fashioned” under the $800 on the 5th pick of the round. He was the only one on the board with $3,400. Drew bet $2,400 and he was pleasantly surprised when his guess was RIGHT.
Basically plaid and only 2 colors, this fabric pattern was rocked by early 20th c. women but Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm gets sick of it show
Drew finished in the lead with $9,600. Diane was second with $3,000 and David was last with $2,600. All clues were shown.
Round 2 Categories: American History – Grammy Album of the Year – Caves – How ’bout a Game of Cards? – Art Terms – At the Accent Aigu Cafe
David found the first Daily Double in “Art Terms” under the $1,200 clue on the 11th pick of the round. He was in second place with $8,600, $5,000 less than Drew’s lead. David cautiously bet $1,000 and guessed the convergence point. That was WRONG.
In a painting, it’s the juncture of a horizontal line where the parallel lines in the scene look like they converge show
David found the last Daily Double in “American History” under the $2,000 clue on the 18th pick of the round. He was in second place with $10,000, $6,400 less than Drew’s lead. Having way more confidence in this category, David made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.
Punning on a General’s name and a Hugo title, glum Civil War soldiers in the army of Northern Virginia called themselves these show
David finished in the lead with $22,000. Drew was second with $16,800 and Diane was last with $3,400. All clues were shown.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHO IS MACBETH?
In Act 3, Scene 4 of “Macbeth”, the title character is holding a banquet when the bloody ghost of Banquo shows up. Macbeth had Banquo murdered. He is the only one who can see this frightful specter and he freaks out. Right after Lady Macbeth sends the guests away, Macbeth says “It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood.” (See 2:14 in this video).
Macbeth consults the Weird Sisters in Act 4, Scene 1. He gets the bad news that Banquo’s descendants will rule Scotland, but he also gets what sounds like good news. “Be bloody, bold, and resolute,” he’s told, no man born of woman can harm him. Technically, that was true but it didn’t save Macbeth’s hide.
Diane got it right. She bet $1,000 and finished with $4,400.
Drew went with Titus Andronicus. That cost him $5,199 and left him with $11,601.
David also got it right down. He bet $11,611 and won the game with $33,611. David’s 3-day total is $90,754.
A triple stumper from each round. (Please don’t put the answers in the comments)
BEFORE THEY WERE STARS ($1000) Before making swearing a pure cinematic art form, he played a dad in Public Enemy’s video for “911 Is A Joke”
GRAMMY ALBUM OF THE YEAR ($1600) “Dreamland” by Glass Animals might be the response to this album that made Billie Eilish the category’s youngest winner ever
2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in “WORLD RIVERS”
These 2 rivers share the names of countries, end with the same 4 letters & both join up with the Paraná River show

I’m not big on Shakespeare, and Macbeth seemed almost too obvious, but that’s what I’d have gone with. The DDs were unkind to me.
Drew seemed headed for a runaway, but David chipped away one clue after another. I just knew if he’d find the DDs he’d take charge.
Knew the Billy Joel street, the first census, and guessed the snail shell.
I missed all DD and FJ. As I am not a Shakespeare scholar (I barely know the Prince of Denmark from the Prince of Tyre), I did not recognize that line, and, like Drew, said “Titus Andronicus”. Like Ken said, also bloody, and I figured, “Go big or go home!”
Wow, another great game, but I thought that Macbeth was too easy in Fj. Instead, I went for Brutus in Julius Caesar.
Good idea, but not a title character.
VJ, the first word of the last DD should be “punning”
Thanks!
Drew had a big lead 3/4 throughout the game but David stormed back to take the lead and was able to maintain his lead going into FJ! David has won over 90k and Drew gave him a huge run of his money. Drew has to be considered to be in the running for the Second Chance Tournament by having a big lead at the end of the first round and 22 correct responses, he’s gotta be in the Second Chance.
