Final Jeopardy: European Countries (6-7-23)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (6/7/2023) in the category “European Countries” was:
Of all the nations that border Italy, the one that didn’t exist in 1990
New champ Suresh Krishnan, a networking engineer from Suwanee, GA, won $10,600 yesterday. In Game 2, he takes on these two players: Kristine Rembach, a human rights lawyer orig. from Ghent, NY; and Collette Lee, a middle school math teacher from Paxton, IL.
Round 1 Categories: Into the Woods – Company – Follies – A Little Night Music – Passion – Merrily We Roll Along
Kristine found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Little Night Music” under the $400 clue on the 20th pick of the round. She was in last place with $1,600, $2,000 less than Suresh’s lead. Kristine made it a true Daily Double and said sonatas. That was WRONG.
Chopin was a master of these meditative piano pieces, a French word meaning “of the night” show
Suresh finished in the lead with $5,800. Collette was second with $3,600 and Kristine was last with $800. All clues were shown.
Round 2 Categories: Astrological Anagrams – Join the Club – The Presidential Line of Succession, Today – Etymology – A Novel Character Breakdown – A ‘90s Kid
Collette found the first Daily Double in “Etymology” under the $xx00 clue on the 7th pick of the round. She was in second place with $4,800, $1,000 less than Suresh’s lead. Collette bet $2,500 and ran out of time. That was WRONG.
This holiday gets its name because it falls on the 50th day… nowadays the 50th day of the Easter season show
Kristine got the last Daily Double in “Astronomical Anagrams” under the $800 clue on the 20th pick of the round. She was in second place with $4,000 now, $2,600 less than Suresh’s lead. Kristine bet $2,500 and she was RIGHT.
In 1054 one happened in Taurus: RAVEN SOUP show
Kristine finished in the lead with $8,500. Suresh was second with $7,000 and Collette was last with $3,500. Two $400 clues were not shown.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS SLOVENIA?
Italy currently has borders with 4 other European nations that lie outside its own borders on the European continent: 434 miles with Switzerland; 296 miles with France; 251 miles with Austria; and 135 miles with Slovenia. In 1990, that last one was Yugoslavia. There are also two tiny enclaves within Italy: San Marino (23 miles) and Vatican City (2.1 miles).
Is Slovenia part of the Balkans or not? Apparently, that can depend on your nationality!
Collette got it right. She bet $3,499 and finished with $6,999.
Suresh got it right. He bet $3,499 and finished with $10,499.
Kristine wrote down Montenegro. That cost her $5,501 and left her with $2,999. So Suresh won the game from second place again. His 2-day total is $21,099.
A triple stumper from each round:
A ’90S KID ($1600) Games for this alphanumeric console included ’90s classics like “GoldenEye” & “Banjo-Kazooie”
($2000) Contestants of a certain age may recall this book series by K.A. Applegate with teens shapeshifting into beasts
2 years ago: TWO of the players got this FJ in “Newspaper Names”
Used as a newspaper name from New York to San Diego, it was an ancient roman official who represented the people’s interests show

I knew that the FJ had reference to the breakup of Yugoslavia, but I didn’t remember which one of those was bordering Italy.
Wow, I’ve never seen so many stumpers on a Jeopardy game show. Good grief!
A voluminous amount of stumpers, my goodness. I got quite a few of them, including the 50th day holiday (DD), the Michelangelo film, and the word from “Home on the Range,” to name but a few.
To the players’ credit, two got FJ and I did not.
People who appear on Jeopardy should know the Presidential line of succession and every world capital. That is mandatory.
I thought about FJ for a moment. I thought of, and discarded, Slovenia. I said Czech Republic.
I didn’t focus as much on what I now see were voluminous TS as the low scoring that this was. Just not as impressive to me. I was really thinking Suresh was going to “rip and tear”!
Too many triple stumpers in Double Jeopardy (23 total and $27,800 of lach trash in both rounds)
No one got “The Presidential Line of Succession” clues and the $400 clue is missing due to the time limit in the round.
I got $14,400 in triple stumpers on today’s show. I suspect the record for triple stumpers would be in a celebrity week, but then many of those games(Trebek era) didn’t get the 58 clues in this episode still did.
Man, what a rough game today. There were 23 triple stumpers in today’s game. What’s going on players, did you not study a bit better with the categories and stuff. They struggled with the game material today. What was the record for the amount of most triple stumpers in a game?
well, all I know is that was the most triple stumpers I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it’s important to know what the record for the most whatever is all the time. I’d bet one or more of the contestants knew about half of the stumpers but weren’t reasonably sure, so they didn’t want to lose money.
Whatever, far better to keep what they had than to end up in the red! And Suresh ends up with another $10K in his asset column
