WHAT IS BRUCE?

Rory Carroll, Ireland correspondent for The Guardian, looked into the enigma of why Robert the Bruce’s younger brother, Edward, gets none of the glory that is accorded to Robert the Bruce. Robert sent Edward to Ireland in 1315, a year after he beat the English at Bannockburn. Edward’s mission was to unite the Irish to revolt against the
English. Edward’s endeavors met with inital success and he was crowned High King of Ireland in 1316. In 1318, he was defeated and killed by Anglo-Irish forces at the Battle of Faughart.

So, while the Scots celebrate Robert the Bruce as the king who freed them from English rule, the Irish don’t see his brother Edward as a hero. Besides his grave at the site of the Battle of Faughart, a pub owned by Michael McCourt Dundalk is known as King Bruce Tavern, and the pub’s wifi password is kingbruce.

Eric got it right. He bet $5,798 and finished with $11,598.

Bonnie went with Stuart. She bet and lost her whole $7,200.

Ryan had the same wrong response as Bonnie. Ryan bet nary a shilling so he won the game with $15,200. His 8-day total is $160,401.

I first said “Wallace”, to jog my memory, then said “Bruce”, before time ran out.

Unusually, for me, at least, I only got one of the TS listed. Don’t know why I knew the CNBC anchor!

It looks like Ryan was aiming towards a tie breaker. Bonnie had exactly half.

  2. Rick says:

A tough FJ as all I could up with was ‘Stuart’.

Happy to see Eric getting final right today. Ryan played well despite not getting the daily doubles.
