WHAT IS THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA?

Suvla Bay and Cape Hellas are locations on the Gallipoli peninsula in present-day Turkey. Historically, the area has seen many military battles due to its strategic location (where East meets West). In 1914, British and French forces were sent to help defend Russia from the Central Powers in what became known as the Gallipoli Campaign. Per the Gallipoli Association’s website, the Gallipoli Campaign “was flawed from the very start and became a defeat for the Allies.” They have a detailed timeline over there.

Susan wrote down “Hellenic”. She bet nothing and remained at $5,600.

Amy got it right. She bet $6,500 and finished with $16,100.

Matt thought it was Danzig. He lost $3,201 and finished with $12,799. That made Amy Bekkerman the new Jeopardy! champ.

Why didn’t Amy get credit for guessing “aerie” in the first half?

What a fantastic comeback by Amy. It was looking like a runaway for Matt till her late rally.
Thought she was toast after that disastrous $4K loss on a very gettable DD (Maryland community) that sank her to $1200. (My niece lives in that town now.) That last DD about the elements and the final were too tough for me. Best I could come up with was “Aegean peninsula.”

Thought that $2K stumper about the Danish philosopher was a gimme. I bet our “4th podium” person got that one too.

A seemingly tough FJ to be sure, and I thought that I knew a little about WWI.

Well not a bad game today. I remember Mel Gibson in the Gallipoli movie many years ago.
