#5 Xavier Downs #1 Villanova in Big, Big East Matchup

The top ranked Villanova Wildcats traveled to Cincinnati to take on the fifth ranked Xavier Musketeers on February 24th, and the result was yet another upset in a season of upsets.

Xavier lost big at Villanova 95-64 earlier this season, but was in control for most of the time in the rematch and won 90-83. Six Musketeers scored in double figures, with J.P. Macura and Edmond Sumner leading the way with 19 points each. Villanova (24-4, 13-2 in the Big East) remains in the conference lead but by just a half a game over Xavier (25-3, 13-3). The Musketeers will play nest at Seton Hall on February 28th; the Pirates (19-7, 9-5) are in third place in the Big East. Villanova will try to get back on track at Marquette (18-10, 7-8) on February 27th.

In another February 24th upset of note, Wisconsin won at #8 Iowa 67-59. The Hawkeyes have now lost three of four, and with the conference and NCAA tournaments on the horizon, they’re going cold at the wrong time.
