Based on the comments I have read I think there was no 2016 tournament of champions, and this is why the 2016 and 2017 champions for both teachers and college are in the 2017 tournament. Can someone please confirm this? Secondly, what system does jeopardy use to group the 15 qualifiers into the five semi-final matches? The same question applies when grouping the five winners and four wild-card qualifiers into the three semi-final matches.

That’s right, John, they didn’t have a tournament of champions in 2016. The last one, in 2015, was going on in November same as this one.

Can’t help you with the second question — I haven’t really looked into how they chose the quarter-final groups this time around . As I recall, In the 2015 ToC, all the players came from the same season and there were some who already played against each other during their season so they didn’t have them in the same game in the quarter-finals. But I don’t think they had that same situation this year.

Do you put 3x Winners and 4x Winners no longer in the Top 15 in the Tournament of Champions Tracker?
