Yankees Eliminates Guardians To Advance to ALCS

Giancarlo Stanton hit a three run homer and Aaron Judge hit a solo shot as the New York Yankees took Game 5 of their Division Series matchup against the Cleveland Guardians by a score of 5-1. The series was the only Division Series to go to all five games of the best of five series, and had the final contest rained out once before it was finally played.

Here’s Stanton’s 1st inning homer which essentially put the game away early for New York:

New York will play the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the best of seven American League Championship Series on October 19th. This will be a matchup of the two best regular season records in the American League; Houston was 106-56 while New York was 99-63. The Astros won five of the seven regular season games against the Yankees. Houston won the American League Pennant last year before succumbing to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series.

In contrast to the American League, the National League Championship Series features the two lowest Wild Cards in the N.L. post season field. The San Diego Padres were 89-73, and finished 22 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the N.L. West. The Dodgers were 111-51, tied for the fourth most regular season wins in a season, but San Diego beat them in four games. The Philadelphia Phillies were 87-55 and the lowest seed in the N.L. post season, but they took down the defending champion Braves in four games.
