Winnipeg Jets Set NHL Record With 14th Win in 15 Games
Winnipeg scored a pair of goals in each of the first two periods and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 32 of 33 shots as the Jets beat the Dallas Stars 4-1 on November 9th. Winnipeg has been the hottest team in the league to start the season, improving to 14-1. The Jets are also the hottest team in NHL history at the start of a season; no one else has opened a campaign by winning 14 of 15.
You can’t win 14 of 15 at the beginning or any other part of a season without consistently outstanding goal tending, and goalie Connor Hellebuyck has been consistently outstanding. He is 11-1 on the season, with a 1.83 goals against average, a .935 save percentage, and three shutouts already. Backup net minder Eric Comre is bad either at 3-0 with a 2.67 goals against average. That all works out to a 2.07 goals against average, which is the best in the NHL. The Jets offense isn’t bad either; they lead the league in goals per game at 4.47. They’ve converted on 41.9% of their power plays, which is also the best in the league.
There are a couple of tests coming up for the Jets this month. Winnipeg and defending champion Florida (currently 11-3-1) will face off in back to back games on November 16th and 19th. (Not sure why the NHL has the only two games between any teams as back to back, especially since they are home and home, but whatever). They will also play at Minnesota on November 25th. The Wild are in second place behind the Jets in the Central Division with a record of 10-2-2.
