Warriors Beat Raptors But Lose Kevin Durant

The Golden State Warriors Came into Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Toronto on June 10th down 3-1 to the Raptors. Still, Kevin Durant was back in the lineup, cleared to play for the first time since injuring a calf muscle on May 8th, so there was some reason for optimism that the Warriors could win and send it back to Oakland for Game 6.

But Durant suffered an Achilles tendon injury after playing just 12 minutes and scoring 11 points. This was an emotionally devastating injury to both Durant and the Warriors, who would have to reach back for something extra if they didn’t want the season to come to an end.

They had enough left to come from a six point deficit with three and a half minutes left to edge the Raptors 106-105. Steph Curry scored 31 and Klay Thompson added 26 for Golden State. DeMarcus Cousins, who knows all about missing time due to an Achilles injury, came off the bench to score 14.

I hope KD will be okay in the long run. It was painful to watch him get injured again on the court. Imo the Raptors would have won the game if Nick Nurse had not called time out when Kawhi Leonard had the ball at the 3-minute mark. I think his momentum was interrupted because he was hitting baskets left and right. To lose by only one point must hurt. We shall see what happens Thursday. Good finals though.
