Villanova Beats Michigan for NCAA Men’s Basketball Title

After all the upsets and twists in the 2018 NCAA Basketball Tournament, it still ended with a dominant #1 seed winning the championship. Villanova, the #1 seed in the East, beat Michigan (#3 in the West) 79-62 in San Antonio. The Wildcats won the championship for the second time in three years and third time overall.

Villanova was led by Donte DiVincenzo, who came off the bench to score 31 points. The only other Wildcat in double figures was Mikal Bridges with 19. Villanova was dominant in the tournament, winning all six games by double figure victory margins. Michigan was just 3 of 23 from three point range, while Villanova was 10 of 27. In the Wildcats’ semifinal win over Kansas, they hit a Final Four record 18 from beyond the arc (in 40 shots). Villanova finished 36-4 for the season, with an 11 game winning streak. Michigan had a great second half of the season with a 14 game winning streak that ended when the Wolverines ran into the Villanova buzzsaw. The Wolverines finished with a record of 33-8.
