Victor Wembanyama Scores 40 Points as San Antonio Wins Season Opener Over Dallas

The NBA season opener for the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks featured the #1 and #2 overall draft picks in the 2025 NBA draft, but it was Victor Wembanyama who stole the show.

The Spurs and Mavericks opened their seasons in Dallas on October 22nd, with #1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg starting for Dallas and the #2 pick Dylan Harper coming in off the bench for the Spurs. Flagg scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds, and Harper scored 15 points, not bad debuts, but their performances were overshadowed by Harper’s teammate Victor Wembanyama. He scored 40 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and had three blocked shots to lead the Spurs to a 125-92 victory over the Mavericks in Dallas.

Stephon Castle, last year’s Rookie of the Year scored 22 for San Antonio while Anthony Davis scored 22 with 13 rebounds for Dallas. Wembanyama was the Rookie of the Year two years ago. Victor’s season ended in February last year after he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis.
