U.S. Men Win 4 X100m Freestyle Relay; Katie Ledecky Takes Silver in 400m

There’s no Michael Phelps on this year’s U.S. Olympic men’s swim team—he’s a once in a lifetime athlete—but there are still plenty of good swimmers on the team that will bring home a lot of medals. The quartet of Caeleb Dressel, Blake Pieroni, Bowen Becker, and Zach Apple won the Gold Medal in the Men’s 4 X 100m Freestyle Relay in the first swimming relay of the games:

On the women’s side of things, Katie Ledecky won the silver in the Women’s 400m Freestyle, finishing behind Australia’s Ariarne Titmus. Some idiotic headline writers have talked about it being an “upset” and how Ledecky was “dethroned”. Well, yes she won the Gold in 2016 at the Rio Games in this event, but Titmus is no slouch. She won this event at the 2019 World Championships. Ledecky has more events coming up, and even Phelps won three silvers and two bronze medals to go with his 23 Olympic Gold. So relax everybody and realize these swimmers are the best in the world and no victory is guaranteed.
