The Boys of Winter

We usually think of baseball as a game played on warm summer days and nights, but it often is just the opposite in April, where winter sometimes takes a parting shot. That was the case in Detroit and Pittsburgh on April 22nd, where both the Tigers vs. Yankees and Pirates vs. Cubs games had weather associated more with football games than baseball games.

In Detroit, Tigers ace David Price didn’t fare too well in the snow, allowing six runs to the Yankees in the first inning. Price allowed eight runs in a short 2 1/3 innings before mercifully being lifted, and New York went on to a 13-4 victory.

In Pittsburgh, the Pirates led the Cubs 4-1 in the seventh inning when sleet and then snow invaded PNC Park:

The Pirates held off an eighth inning rally by the Cubs and won 4-3. The Steelers—and Penguins—would be proud.
