Texas Upsets Alabama in College Football

Next year, Texas will move from the Big 12 into the SEC as part of the ongoing musical chairs of conference affiliations in Division I college sports. Last season, the Longhorn football team hosted SEC powerhouse Alabama in a nonconference game, and lost 20-19. This season, Alabama hosted Texas in Tuscaloosa on September 9th, and the Longhorns showed they are ready for the move to the SEC.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers completed 24 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns as the eleventh ranked Longhorns upset the #3 Crimson Tide 34-24. Texas led 13-6 at halftime, but Alabama scored ten points in the third quarter to take a 16-13 lead. Texas dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Alabama 21-8 to secure the victory. Adonai Mitchell caught a pair of Ewers’ touchdown passes in the final quarter.

The loss snapped Alabama’s 21 home game winning streak. Texas (2-0) moved up to fourth in the AP Top 25, while Alabama (1-1) dropped to tenth. The Longhorns will host Wyoming (2-0) on September 16th; Texas is 3-0 against the Cowboys all time. Wyoming opened the season with a 35-33 double overtime victory over Texas Tech. Alabama will try to get on track at South Florida (1-1) before hosting #17 Mississippi (2-0) on September 23rd.
