Sydney McLaughlin Wins Women’s 400m Hurdles in World Record Time Again

Sydney McLaughlin, the 22 year old hurdler who won Gold at the Tokyo Olympics last year is on a tear. On July 22nd, she won the Gold in the 400 meter hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon with time of 50.68 seconds, breaking her own world record mark by 0.73 seconds. It was the fourth time she has broken the world record in this event in the last 13 months. Did we mention she’s just 22?

Femke Bol of the Netherlands was 2nd with a time of 52.27, and Dalilah Muhammad of the U.S., McLaughlin’s teammate who took the Silver in Tokyo and is a previous world record holder, won the Bronze. Americans were also fourth and fifth.

McLaughlin also won Gold at Tokyo in the 4 X 400 meter relay. She won Gold as part of the relay team in the same event in the 2019 World Championships, and won Silver there in the hurdles.
