Supporting Cast: South Side Rules – Shameless

The season is winding down and that means they have to set up the main characters for a finale worthy of luring viewers back for Season 6. But it also means less guest stars. And there weren’t that many in the 10th episode of Season 5, “South Side Rules”, that we have not already featured.

Helene (Sasha Alexander) and her husband, Theo, (Michael Reilly Burke) were featured in Carl’s First Sentencing. Theo’s menu had changed in Episode 10 from omelettes to crepes. Theo even noticed the Egon Schiele resemblance. Unsophisticated Lip was too unnerved to partake.

Sean (Dermot Mulroney) was featured in the supporting cast post for “Milk of the Gods.” We never got around to featuring Jackson A. Dunn who played his son, Will. Well, we didn’t see much of him — even in this episode, Will left town with his mother, Nikole, who was played by Katherine Keberlein.

Bianca (Bojana Novavich) was featured in “Carl’s First Sentencing,” too. Her sister, Elizabeth, played by Tasha Ames, made an appearance in “South Side Rules” to beg Bianca to fight against her diagnosis.

It was interesting that Bianca said she was fighting — for her dignity. In that sense, the same could be said about Ian (Cameron Monaghan) rebelling against taking meds that turn him into a zombie. There’s one big difference though. Without his meds, Ian is both self-destructive and a threat towards others.

Debbie’s love interest, Derek, was featured in Night to Remem- Wait, What?. In this one, he brought Debbie to his family barbecue where she met his brother’s baby mama, Tanya (Gabrielle Walsh). Derek and Debbie had made plans to have sex at the Gallagher house after the barbecue. Debbie assured him that no one would care if they did it on the kitchen table while they were eating. Debbie got the idea from Tanya that she could be part of Derek’s family, too, if she has his baby. Debbie deliberately decided to ignore the Planned Parenthood doctor’s warning that her birth control pills would not work for 2 days.

Other Shameless moments:

• Frank’s self-description to Elizabeth: “I am indefatigible. I take ‘yes’ for an answer. I am tough as a buzzard. Frank’s description of Elizabeth: “cock-blocking Laura Bush.”
• Amanda’s description of Muff Bulldagger: “Fiery and full of lust. Like a coked-up Amish teenager.”
