Supporting Cast: Jailbird, Invalid – Shameless

Fiona (Emmy Rossum) had a really hard time trying to understand how her life could be totally ruined by one moment of negligence, while at the same time feeling utterly devastated by the fact that Liam’s life could have ended and might still be irreversibly changed. When her attorney (Lisa Vidal) outlined her chances at trial (the jury will hate you), she still clung to denial. But when her brother Lip (Jeremy Allen White) read her the riot act, she stopped hoping. The only break that came her way in court was a small one.

Even though ADA Jeffries (Gregory Linington) agreed to a plea deal of probation, he still wanted Fiona to go to jail for 3 months. Fiona’s attorney asked for 30 days. Judge Kaitlin Shanor (Denise Grayson) decided that justice would be better served by placing Fiona under house arrest until further notice.

We got to see a little different side of Amanda (Nichole Bloom), the girlfriend of Lip’s roommate at college. Amanda and Lip usually interact very negatively, although Lip has a nice rapport with Ron. Amanda was totally charmed by Liam, shared clementines and a Toblerone with the Gallagher boys and practically begged Lip to let her babysit Liam while she went to class. Meantime, Carl (Ethan Cutkowksy) had to deal with a couple of wise guys at school, who teased him that Liam was going to be retarded.

The last time the Gallagher children went to foster care was a year ago, in the 2/24/2013 episode of Season 3, in Cascading Failures. That led up to Fiona being made their legal guardian. Next week’s preview shows Robbie Pratt (Nick Gehlfuss) showing up at the Gallagher home to apologize for the mess he got Fiona in. Uh oh. Robbie has been nothing but bad news this season. All of a sudden, he’s got a conscience?
