Streaking Astros Sweep Two From Mets

The Houston Astros are threatening to run away with the American League West title, while the New York Mets have the lead in the National League East. The two division leaders met in a two game interleague series in Houston June 21-22.

The Astros jumped off to a 7-0 lead and coasted to an 8-2 win in Game 1. Houston’s Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, and Jose Siri hit home runs and Kyle Tucker drove in three runs. In Game 2, Alvarez hit a pair of home runs, his 20th and 21st of the year, and Alex Bregman hit another homer to lead the Astros to a 5-3 win and series sweep.

The wins propelled the Astros to a 43-25 record, good for a 10 game lead over the second place Texas Rangers. The Mets lead the NL East by four games over the Atlanta Braves. The Astros go to New York to take on the AL East leading Yankees in a big four game series starting June 23rd. The Yankees lead the East by 12 games over Toronto.
