Spurs Beat Rockets for 15th Win in Their Last 16 Games

Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 145-120 win over the Houston Rockets in San Antonio on March 8th. It was the Spurs’ fourth in a row and 15th win in their last 16 games as San Antonio takes a run at overtaking Oklahoma City for the top seed in the NBA Western Conference. The Thunder (50-15) still lead San Antonio (47-17) by 2 ½ games.

Stephen Castle scored 23 and De’Aaron Fox had 20 points and 10 assists for the Spurs. Keldon Johnson scored 20 and Dylan Harper had 19 off the bench. Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson each scored 23 for the Rockets (39-24). Houston dropped to 4th in the West, a half game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have won eight of 10. The Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets are both just a half game behind the Rockets in what is shaping up to be a very tight race for the third through sixth seeds.

San Antonio does not have any more regular season games against Oklahoma City, but the Spurs took the season series from the Thunder four games to one. The Spurs next game is March 10th when they host the Boston Celtics in a matchup of the current second seeds in each conference. The Celtics (43-21) have won eight of 10 and are 2 ½ games behind the 1st place Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference.
