Russell Westbrook Gets 100th Career Triple Double
Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook scored 32 points, grabbed a dozen rebounds and had 12 assists in the Thunders’ 119-107 win at Atlanta on March 13th. It was the 100th career triple double for Westbrook, and he is just the fourth player in NBA history to record triple figures in triple doubles. He joins Oscar Robertson (181), Magic Johnson (138) and Jason Kidd (107).
Westbrook achieved the feat in his 736th NBA game. Robertson did it in just 277 games, including a single season record of 41 in his second year (1961-62 season) in the league. Westbrook broke that record last year when he had 42.
The Thunder scuffled a bit earlier this season, but have been playing better as of late and would be the #4 seed in the Western Conference in the playoffs with a record of 41-29. OKC doesn’t have an easy time of it in its remaining 12 games, playing at Toronto, Boston, New Orleans, Houston, and Miami; plus home games against Portland, Miami, and Golden State. Those teams have either clinched playoff berths or would be playoff teams based on their current records. They get a breather finally in the last game of the season, hosting Memphis on April 11th. The Grizzlies are 18-49 and are in a race to the bottom with the Phoenix Suns for the worst record in the league.
