Red Sox and Brewers Take Winning Streaks into the All Star Break
The Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers have each league’s longest current winning streaks as we head into the mid July All Star break.
Ceddanne Rafaela hit a sixth inning two run home run and starting pitcher Brayan Bello allowed one run in six 1/3 innings to lead the Red Sox to a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park July 13th. Bello is now 6-3 with a 3.14 ERA. Aroldis Chapman, who was selected to the American League All Star team, picked up his 17th save of the season. It was the tenth win in a row for the Red Sox (53-45), who now trail the 1st place Toronto Blue Jays by three games and the second place New York Yankees by one game in the American League East.
In Milwaukee, the Brewers scored three runs in the second inning and five in the eighth to beat the Washington Nationals 8-1. Bryce Turang hit a solo homer and Jackson Chourio had a three run blast for the Brewers in that eighth inning. Brewers starter Freddy Peralta, an All Star team selection, allowed one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched and improved to 11-4 on the season. The win was the seventh in a row for the Brewers. Milwaukee is 56-40, and trails the Chicago Cubs by one game in the National League Central.
The All Star Game is July 15th in Atlanta. Regular season play resumes on July 18th.
