Poll: Wisconsin Voters Like Cheese, Aaron Rodgers, and Beer in That Order

The polling firm Public Policy Polling conducted a poll of 1071 registered voters in Wisconsin in early March, not about politics, but on the popularity of the state’s sports figures. University of Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan and UW athletic director and former football coach Barry Alverez scored favorable ratings of 79% and 71% respectively, but the most popular sports figure is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who had a 79% favorable rating.

For comparison purposes, the voters were asked their thoughts on cheese and beer, two of the state’s most famous products, with 80% having a favorable opinion of cheese and 65% having a favorable opinion on beer. With a margin of error of plus or minus 3%, Rodgers and cheese are essentially the same in popularity. In another food related question, out of the five sausages in the Milwaukee Brewers between innings sausage race, 52% preferred Bratwurst, well ahead of number two Italian sausage (15%). No surprise here, as a Wisconsin food pyramid would likely consist of cheese, beer,  and brats.

The poll found that Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, all were in agreement on these questions. Complete results can be found here.
