Pirates Turn Major League Baseball’s First Ever 4-5-4 Triple Play

Now here’s something you don’t see every day: a 4-5-4 (second baseman to third baseman back to second) triple play. In fact, until the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled this one off against the St. Louis Cardinals in their game in Pittsburgh on May 9th, it had never been done in major league history.

The play involved second baseman Neil Walker and third baseman Jung Ho Kang:

Walker also hit a home run to help the Pirates beat the Cardinals 7-5.  Pittsburgh closed out the Mother’s Day weekend series with a 4-3 victory to take two out of three from the front running Cardinals.
