Piers Morgan on Politics and What Not to Wear When You’re 57
Piers Morgan “the most hated person on Twitter” appeared on The Wendy Williams Show on Thursday, May 12th to share some of his strong opinions with his host.
Piers explained that there were two sides to the “most hated” coin, the other being “most popular”, because I’m followed by nearly 5 million people,” the Daily Mail columnist said.
The first “hot topic” was Piers’ criticism of Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” video and his stated preference for “the old Beyoncé” in his 4/25/16 column. “Beyoncé then was unrecognisable from the militant activist we see now. Then, she was at pains to be seen as an entertainer and musician and not as a black woman who sings. Now, it seems to be the complete opposite. The new Beyoncé wants to be seen as a black woman political activist first and foremost, entertainer and musician second.”
What he had to say in the live interview was pretty much more of the same, right down to the tea and scones he had with Beyoncé 5 years ago. Piers likes her as an entertainer and doesn’t want to see any deliberately provocative stuff from Beyoncé. Wendy Williams said she would just like her to sing and dance.
Well, Piers, people change… and he didn’t seem to have a problem with that when it came to Donald Trump. Now that it looks like Trump has the Republication nomination in the bag, Piers said “You will see, knowing him as I do, pulling back on some of the more extreme views, becoming much more mainstream, because now he’s going for the big job, the White House.” He doesn’t agree with everything Trump has to say, “but I’ve got to say the way he says it is so different from most politicians, it’s refreshing.” Even so, he said that he would not vote for Trump because he doesn’t agree with him on gun control. He agrees with Clinton’s position on that issue but would not straight out say he would vote for her, professing to have a “political affinity” for Bernie Sanders.
As for 50-somethings and fashion, Piers found Madonna’s outfit at the Met Ball appalling. “You’re 57 years old,” he exclaimed, “Grow old gracefully!” Piers said that his opinion applies to men as well — he feels the same way “when Mick Jagger prances about with no clothes on.” In his view, its more about not embarrassing your kids and exposing them to ridicule at school. Madonna posted on her Instagram that her outfit was “a political statement as well as a fashion statement: “The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society.”
