PGA Championship Will Be August 6th-9th With No Fans Present
The PGA Championship, originally scheduled for May 14th-17th but postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be played August 6th-9th. The event will be held at its originally scheduled site at Harding Park in San Francisco, but there will be no fans present.
So now three of Golf’s four major tournaments have been rescheduled. The British Open has been cancelled for this year, but the U.S. Open is set for September 17th-20th, and the Masters will be played November 12th-15th. Of course, the status of the pandemic will be the ultimate decider of what will or won’t be going on in golf or any other sports. Nick Watney tested positive for Covid-19 at the RBC Heritage tournament at Hilton Head, South Carolina over the Father’s Day weekend, the first golfer to test positive since the tour resumed. On a brighter note, 11 people who had come into contact with Watney tested negative. There have been other pro and college athletes who have tested positive in recent days in various sports; baseball training camps, which aren’t yet even in full swing, have been moved out of Florida and Arizona due to big Covid outbreaks there (including some players testing positive).
Brooks Koepka has won the last two PGA Championships, and will try to become the first player to win three in a row since Walter Hagen won four straight from 1924-27. Let’s hope he gets the chance to do so this year and doesn’t have to wait until 2021.
